Hazardous Manual Tasks Are the Leading Cause of Workplace Injury in Australia

Body stressing from lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and awkward postures accounts for more serious workers’ compensation claims than any other mechanism. Most of those injuries build up over a shift, a roster and a career rather than in one dramatic lift.

Under Australian work health and safety law, employers must manage the risk of hazardous manual tasks and workers must follow reasonable instruction and take care of their own safety. Knowing how to recognise a hazardous task, what controls actually work and when to stop is the part every worker can carry with them.
